We recently received the below newsletter update from Haiti Health Initiative (HHI), one of our field partners Haiti. Together we are reaching 1,500 children with vitamin A and 133 pregnant and lactating women with prenatal vitamins.

In October 2011, HHI volunteers will provide a medical and dental clinic to serve the needs of the people of Timo and the surrounding mountain areas. HHI’s study of anemia in the region will continue. The medical team will assess the expected hemoglobin increases in individuals who were treated in March 2011, while continuing to assess anemia, administering vitamin A and deworming medication to children under the age of five, and administering prenatal vitamins to pregnant and lactating women.

A fraction of the vitamins and medications HHI will be distributing have already been provided to HHI by generous organizations, such as Vitamin Angels and the Women and Children’s Hope Foundation, whose interests include improving the health of those in Haiti. Many vital medications such as antibiotics, anti-fungals, and pain relievers, to name a few, will be purchased with monetary donations.
