Andeana's Birthday!!!!

Dear Friends,

This year my birthday is a very special one, not only because it is May 2nd our election day here in Canada, but because it marks 20 years, since my life has been forever changed; as my health has been at best compromised ever since.

I would like to use this Birthday as an opportunity to repay some of the kindness I have received in my life. Specifically to honour the many hundreds of friends, family, and complete STRANGERS who donated money when it seemed most hopeless. Even though doctors thought it was hopeless, countless people contributed what they could to build a “safe room” for me, for medical supplies, and for treatments here and abroad. It is because of them I am here today.

I have chosen Vitamin Angels. A secular non-profit organization dedicated to providing micro-nutrients and multi-vitamins to children under 5 and pregnant women in some of the most remote and isolated parts of the world. The cost is 25 cents per person.
Imagine that! 25 cents to save a child’s vision, to prevent birth defects and maternal complications! Micro-nutrients are essential! A deficiency of even a single one can lead to disease and death. Imagine knowing you went blind over lack of a quarter!

These are the most innocent of our society. I too was a child dependent on the generosity and good will of others, even strangers... this year I want to give something back by giving to others. To help people via the gift of health to have a chance in this world. Without health we have no chance – poverty or not.

This year I do not want to a drink at a bar, or a funny graphic T-shirt. I would like to honour those who gave me extra years to make wonderful friends and connect with you beautiful souls.
I understand that times are tight for many of you. That maybe your coffee money is all you can do and for that I would be most grateful. If you are able to donate a few extra dollars, thank you! Please remember that $1 = 4 children treated with vitamin A! Four children who will have a basic chance in their one life on this earth.  I have made a modest goal of $200. I hope to exceed this if at all possible.

To the countless people who helped to save my life 20 years ago and to those who continue to help me every day through the rougher times, I thank you from the depths of my soul. Your kindness has inspired me to be a better person, and to “pay-it-forward”. You have allowed me to make new friends, meet fascinating people, and most importantly to have a shot at life myself! For that I will be eternally grateful.

Please help me to make this the best birthday/life-versary of my life!

Update: thanks to a MOST generous and kind hearted friend we have reached the original $200 goal. I am now raising the goal to $300. That one donor helped 800 children! EIGHT HUNDRED!!
