Global Vitamin A Policy.

Vitamin A supplementation is one of the top health interventions recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in over 120 vitamin A deficiency (VAD) priority countries. It is also a key action taken by those working to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

In the last decade, governments and international aid organizations have made great strides toward covering children in VAD priority countries with national vitamin A campaigns. However, because of limited access, about 20-30% of children ages 1-5 most in need of vitamin A go unreached. The 6-12 month old age group is reached even less frequently, despite being within a critical window of opportunity for child survival and development. Vitamin Angels, with special focus on underserved children, is a partner in this global effort to reduce vitamin A deficiency.
