Now Foods

Our partners at NOW have been with Vitamin Angels since day one. Their dedication to improving the lives of children and making the world a healthier place is evidenced in their actions and support year after year. NOW continues to fulfill its yearly giving commitment of 4 million doses of vitamin A, part of a pledge to donate 40 million doses over a 10 year period as part of their 40th anniversary celebration, and is providing additional monetary contributions that support our programs around the world. NOW your contributions and commitment to our cause are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

AI Powers, President of NOW, had this to share about our partnership, "Our long standing relationship and commitment to the work of Vitamin Angels supports our mission at NOW to empower people to lead healthier lives. At NOW, this means making our nutritional products affordable to those who have the means to buy them, and available to those who can't. NOW's mission is fully aligned with the mission of Vitamin Angels and we commend Howard and the entire team at Vitamin Angels for continuing to make a difference in our world!"l

Angels in Action!

"I want for all the children of the world, the same love, happiness, health and opportunity that I wish for my own niece and nephew and that I am so thankful to have had growing up."

Having accompanied Vitamin Angels on our recent trip to Kenya, Brianna was so inspired by our work and the critical impact that prenatal vitamins can make on the health of mothers and their babies she is using her participation in next month's Marathon by the Sea as a fundraising opportunity for Vitamin Angels! Dear Friends,

We did it. We recently received a 4-star rating (the highest rating possible) from Charity Navigator for a fourth consecutive year – something achieved by only 8% of the charities reviewed (Read our press release). We are thrilled and honored to receive this recognition. It is not only a great indication of the care in which we use your donations, but a reflection of the fact that we remain true to our mission year after year. We consider the stewardship of your contributions a great responsibility, and so will continue to direct the majority of our expenditures to our programs.

Our work is in the villages with the women, babies and children who need our help the most; it always has been and always will be. I knew it when I founded Vitamin Angels 17 years ago, and it is still what keeps me going today. On one of our recent trips to the field, Robert Orr from Ocean Nutrition turned to me and said 'I've never seen you more alive than you are now.' It's true.

We hear it from all of the wonderful individuals who join us in the field, over and over again. Visiting these remote villages and meeting the women and babies whose lives are improved by vitamins, is life changing. We want you to know their stories. Hearing about Celestine and how prenatal vitamins completely transformed her latest pregnancy, and how 8-month old Eilmin just received his first dose of vitamin A, is both heartwarming and a powerful reminder about how important this work is.

I'm looking forward to getting back into the field in September on a trip to El Salvador. It's the smallest country in Central America with a population of 6 million and we are reaching 100,000 children under five with vitamin A through Operation 20/20. It doesn't stop there though. Like I said, our work is in the field and that's where I'm headed so we can keep bringing the stories of the children and mothers to you. Please make sure to get signed up for our newsletter or check in with us on Twitter and Facebook and follow my upcoming trips to Haiti in the 4th quarter, then to India, Kenya, Dominican Republic, Vietnam and Peru next year.

Upwards!

Howard Schiffer, President

Good news for pregnant women and children in Sierra Leone
According to an article in the New York Times, the Sierra Leone government is waiving fees for pregnant women and children, making it possible for many to be seen at rural health clinics.

The Times article introduces Hadiatou Kamara, 18, who spoke about her first baby boy and girl, explaining quietly that they had died. Now, "Ms. Kamara, like thousands of women in a country where surgery has been performed by the light of cell phones and flashlights, could afford trained medical staff to oversee her pregnancy for the first time."
