Vitamin Angels in India
Vitamin Angels is working with Humanity in Unity to reach at-risk and underserved children in Uttar Pradesh, India. Uttar Pradesh has some of the lowest nutrition and vitamin A scores in the world with only 6.1% of children ages 6-59 months receiving the required dose. With the assistance of school officials, volunteers at the Om Sai Maa Trust are conducting two vitamin A distributions per year in Varanasi and Virindavan elementary schools. These programs are reaching 32,000 children each year with vitamin A and albendazole, allowing these children the opportunity for improved health and productive futures.

Haitian Hero of the Hemisphere
Nicole Muller Cesar, Director of Health for Haiti’s largest microfinance institution, Fonkoze, (and one of Vitamin Angels distribution partners) was recently named a hero of the Hemisphere by the Pan American Development Foundation. Nicole returned to her native Haiti ten years ago and founded the Institute for Human and Community Development where children are taught social skills, enjoy a hot meal and receive medical and dental care. The institute also works with the children to overcome the traumas of violence and exploitation through one-on-one and group counseling. Today, for 250 abused and neglected children who previously knew only the slum conditions outside the nation’s capital, the school is an oasis. For Nicole, the Institute is the realization of a dream. Vitamin Angels is proud to have Nicole as a partner in Haiti and looks forward to working with her on future distributions.

GNLD International
GNLD International has set the stage for what a new partnership can offer. In their first donation, GNLD provided Vitamin Angels with over 1.6 million tablets of vitamin supplements. Through their contribution thousands of individuals being reached by our partners at Feed the Hungry will receive the nutrients their bodies need for improved health and wellbeing. Thank you GNLD! We hope this is just the start of a lasting partnership! |

ZICO Runs for the Angels
ZICO Coconut Water came up with their own way to fundraise for Vitamin Angels. A large treadmill made an exciting addition to their trade show booth as several Zico employees, including founders Jesse Itzler and Mark Rampolla, took turns running for the Angels during Thursday and Friday afternoon of the Natural Products Expo East Trade Show in Boston.
Through donations made at the show and online, Zico raised funds for Vitamin Angels all while getting in a great workout! |

You may know the team at Pitch Inc. as the creative minds behind the last four Celebration of Angels’ events. They have been an integral part of our main fundraisers’ success, raising more than $5.5 million over the past four years. Their knowledge of strategic messaging and ability to fuse that into all creative program elements sets them apart from other Public Relations companies. Starting this year, Pitch is participating in Vitamin Angels’ partnership program with a percent of sale promotion. If your company has any communication needs, call Pitch and mention Vitamin Angels. Fund-racing for Vitamin Angels
Steven Spitz, triathlete and long-time Vitamin Angels supporter, competed in the Ironman Triathlon World Championship on October 10th to benefit Vitamin Angels. Steven took part in the grueling competition which consisted of swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles and running 26.2 miles (a full marathon), in a finishing time of 12 hours, 47 minutes. Steven’s plans for participating in the Ironman last year were derailed due to an accident with a car while training less than two weeks prior to the race left him injured and unable to compete. Not to be deterred, Steven recovered and sprang back into action earlier this year with more training and fundraising efforts. Through the Janus Charity Challenge, and with the support of Steven’s sponsors (and our partners) at Natrol and MRI, Steven raised in excess of $10,000 last year and an additional nearly $4,000 this year on behalf of Vitamin Angels. Thank you Steven, and Congratulations! |

Dear Friends,
Over $1 million! For the fourth year in a row, Vitamin Angels raised over $1 Million ($1.005 Million to be exact) at our recent Celebration of Angels event in Boston during the Natural Products Expo East tradeshow. We are now well on our way to exceeding our commitment to reach 15 million children in 2010. This really was an evening to celebrate on so many levels.
So many of our friends joined us at Celebration of Angels (check out the photos on our website); Jahn Levin from Purity Products, Tom Tolworthy from Vitamin Shoppe, Peter Hefele from Vitaquest, and Jordan Rubin from Garden of Life, all upped their pledges or goals for support in 2010. Kathy McKnight from Natural Factors (speaking on behalf Ocean Nutrition and DSM), along with Tishcon, Pharmachem, Arizona Nutritional, Marine Nutraceuticals, and Nordic Naturals, all pledged to continue their commitment to Vitamin Angels in 2010. New partnerships with Bruce Nierenberg, Effect Partnersand Zico were announced as well as a commitment from Thad Simons of Novus to supply zinc treatments for 100,000 children in Kenya and around the world.
On October 18th we’re off to Haiti to do distributions with our friends at Hope for Haiti. Sharon Dressen from Rainbow Light will be joining us and we’re looking forward to meeting the children in the remote rural villages outside of Les Cayes.
Make sure to look for our Unconventional Angels campaign this month at fine Natural Product stores across the country.
I read a wonderful quote this week from the Buddha; 'There is only one time when it is essential to awaken. That time is now.'
Upward, Howard Schiffer, President

15 Years and
15
Million Children
Hundreds of Natural Products Expo East attendees turned out for Vitamin Angels’ annual Celebration of Angels fundraiser on September 25, in Boston. At this year’s free event we celebrated Vitamin Angels’ 15th year and the 15 million children we plan to reach in 2010, and we raised over $1 million to help children in need. We couldn’t have pulled off this event without the generous support of our sponsors, thank you all for making Celebration of Angels a success.
Check out our event pictures
We also want to give a special thank you New Hope Natural Media and to the many volunteers who committed their time and energy to making this event the best it could possibly be. Thank you!
