Vitamin Angels Receives 4-star Charity Rating 4 Years Running
Elite Rating Achieved by only 8 Percent of Non-Profits Reviewed

Santa Barbara, CA, August 15, 2011 – Vitamin Angels, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization connecting essential nutrients, especially vitamin A, with at-risk populations around the world, received its fourth consecutive four-star rating (the highest rating possible), from Charity Navigator for sound fiscal management. Of the approximately 5,500 charities reviewed by Charity Navigator annually, Vitamin Angels rises to the top with 4-star ratings for fiscal years 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Howard B. Schiffer, Vitamin Angels’ President and Founder, said “We are thrilled and honored to receive this recognition from Charity Navigator. It is not only a great indication of the care in which we use your donations, but a reflection of the fact that we remain true to our mission year after year. We consider the stewardship of your contributions a great responsibility, and so will continue to direct the majority of our expenditures to our programs.”

A letter from Charity Navigator’s President and CEO, Ken Berger, noted “We are proud to announce Vitamin Angels has earned our fourth consecutive 4-star rating for its ability to efficiently manage and grow its finances. Only 8% of the charities we rate have received at least 4 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Vitamin Angels consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way, and outperforms most other charities in America. This “exceptional” designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Vitamin Angels from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”

Defined as “exceed[ing] industry standards and outperform[ing] most charities in its Cause,” the 4-star rating is based on an evaluation of both organizational efficiency and organization capacity. Charity Navigator’s site states, “Our ratings show givers how efficiently we believe a charity will use their support today, and to what extent the charities are growing their programs and services over time.”

Vitamin Angels is dedicated to reducing child mortality worldwide by advancing availability, access and use of essential micronutrients, especially Vitamin A, at–risk populations worldwide. In 2010, Vitamin Angels connected over 22,500,000 children in 43 countries, including the US, with the vital nutrients they need as a foundation for good health.
