Vitamin Angels’ globetrotting President Howard Schiffer is traveling again - this time to Nicaragua along with our friends and partners at Univera. Vitamin Angels’ Development Coordinator Brittany Andrews is also along for the ride, as is the talented photographer and videographer Matt Dayka, with camera in hand.
Vitamin-Angels is visiting two of our in-country partners, The Rainbow Network and Amigos for Christ, who distribute vitamin A, prenatals and children's multivitamins as part of our Operation 20/20 and Thrive to Five programs. Our group will be headed into remote and rural access areas to observe vitamin distributions to both mothers and children. Currently we are reaching 606,750 children under 5 and 270,000 mothers with vitamin A, and an additional 2,900 mothers with prenatal vitamins.
The World Health Organization reports that of Nicaraguan children under age 5, 3.1% suffer from vitamin A deficiency, 32.9% are anemic, 18.8% are stunted and 4.3% are underweight.
