Communications Manager, India

(NOTE: This position description is for a future Vitamin Angels India (VAI) position to be filled when VAI is fully incorporated and has received an FCRA Registration. Until that time, Vitamin Angels USA (VA USA) will engage a consultant advisor under a separate consulting agreement between the advisor and VA USA to fill the role described below including a statement of all reporting relationships and deliverables)

Location: India (must already be based in India)

DATE: Effective upon receipt by VAI of notification of approved incorporation status and FCRA registration     

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Based in India;
  • Fluent in English and at least one Indian language;
  • Master’s degree in Communications or Mass Media or Public Health or Nutrition or equivalent professional experience;
  • Strong understanding of maternal and child health and nutrition in India;
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience performing communications-related consultancies with INGOs, bilateral, or multilateral agencies;
  • Computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
  • Willing and able to travel domestically during the consultancy;
  • Willing to work from home and in possession of reliable telephone/internet connectivity;
  • Superior written and oral communications skills; and
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.

 

Role or Purpose of Position

VAI seeks to continue to expand its country programming in India to reduce health and economic disparities across the lifespan by effectively delivering evidence-based nutrition interventions to hard-to-reach populations. Specifically, VAI delivers evidence-based nutrition interventions that target the first 1000 days of life (i.e., from conception to 24 months of age) and children up to 5 years of age.

 

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Support VAI’s programs in India with marketing and communications tactics that help to retain (primary objective) and acquire (secondary objective) program partners (85%). Support to VAI will occur through a variety of relevant marketing tactics such as:
    1. Social media and digital marketing,
    2. video,
    3. blog articles,
    4. general content,
    5. produce relevant IEC material in coordination with VAI’s program division, and
    6. in conjunction with VAI’s program division, perform a needs assessment with regards to maternal infant & young child nutrition (MIYCN) in India and collaborate with relevant organizations to possibly assemble a MIYCN package.

 

  1. Support content collection for marketing and development (10%).
    1. Maintain relationships with relevant program partners and beneficiary families to capture in-depth stories of VAI's beneficiaries and the program partners that serve them on an annual basis,
    2. Ensuring acquisition of appropriately completed releases is accomplished and that they are on file with VA USA office for all content captured,
    3. Manage logistics for a minimum of one content collection trip per year, which may include interviews, photography and videography needs, as well as delivery of messages from donors to the beneficiaries and capture of 'art' projects from children in the field to send back to VA USA office, and
    4. Identify and manage in-country creative personnel (e.g., photographer and videographer) and support staff, including responsibility to define and oversee specific job details for all persons involved with the in-country marketing activities (e.g., hours expended, quality of content, timely acquisition and processing of deliverables, meeting timelines and deadlines of VA USA office, etc.).

 

  1. Work in partnership with the VA USA Associate Brand Director to fulfill country-specific content needs and requirements (5%).
    1. Serve as the point of contact for the VA USA Marketing team for special requests for India content (photos, videos, field stories, donor visits),
    2. Identify new and innovative opportunities for content capture and creation to be used across all of VA USA’s marketing channels,
    3. Work with VA USA International Travel Manager to build out and facilitate donor and marketing trips,
    4. Help to identify sourcing of locally crafted goods for corporate partner and eCommerce needs, and
    5. Translate transcripts and other documents as needed to support marketing efforts.
