Vitamin Angels (VA) is a global non-profit organization with headquarters in Santa Barbara, California, USA. It promotes and implements evidence-based nutrition interventions among hard-to-reach and underserved populations (those that lack access to national health services), in 65 countries.

High-level Description of Position

Vitamin Angels is seeking a hands-on Vice President of Marketing who will be responsible for successfully leading the organization’s global marketing division. Reporting to the SVP, Operations, they will lead a global group and play a meaningful role on the leadership team. This VP will demonstrate their business and fundraising foresight, digital expertise, and strategic marketing skills to build and manage a team that will support the growth objectives of Vitamin Angels as an international public health nonprofit.

This role requires an individual with strong leadership, partner management and entrepreneurial skills who can successfully publicize VA’s brand vision and marketing strategies to various audiences and partners. This leader will collaborate with and drive a strong team of hardworking individuals across the globe who want to help our brand meet varying objectives.

The successful candidate will be a creative-thinker and innovator who can inspire others to do so too and isn’t afraid to take risks and learn. You have past success leading cross-functional relationships across varying levels, and delivering strong impact.


Key Accountabilities

  • Brand – nourish and grow the brand’s language and visual representation. Help to guide the team on how and where to leverage the brand appropriately. Priorities include balancing external perceptions re: reputation and how to further grow the organization’s credibility. 

  • Divisional – build, balance and grow marketing capabilities to best support the sometimes-opposing needs of the divisions, with an understanding of key intersection points.

  • Channels – across Digital, PR and Social you understand how to build evergreen and customized solutions for the brand and our corporate partners while driving innovation.

  • Revenue – lead and build support to deliver revenue goals from Individual Donors.

  • Leadership - Serves as key member of the Strategic Leadership Team. Creates and implements yearly Strategic Operational and long-term Strategic plans for the marketing division that support and connect with Programs, Development and Corporate Services Divisions. Oversee the Marketing Division’s budget, planning and staff development. Inspires and motivates staff performance, develops goals, objectives, priorities. Actively promote inclusion and equitable practices within the group you manage.


Our Approach

The team is comprised of three groups:  Brand, Go To Market (GTM) and Divisional Leads. Collectively the marketing team works with key audiences and stakeholders to support organizational and divisional objectives.

  • Brand (this includes Brand, Content and Creative)

    • Responsible for building and sustaining a strong, compelling brand identity consistent with VA’s mission and values

      • Expand and grow the brand’s responsibility within a defined strategic architecture

      • Focus on how VA can gain greater credibility across shared audiences – keep building out target audience needs while optimizing enterprise opportunities

      • Position and translate the brand appropriately to meet emerging international expansion needs

    • Ensure values of diversity, equity, and inclusion are reflected in all aspect of the VA brand expression

    • Lead with a people-first mentality in the quality of our content creation

    • Help to extend the brand globally with expertise, tools and coaching


  • Go To Market (this includes PR, Social Media, Website and Digital Marketing)

    • PR & Social

      • Help to shape and guide PR activity to support varying needs and grow brand reputation while generating value for strategic partnerships

      • Drive new and innovative partnerships and collaborations

      • Support emerging needs from Social to increase amplification

      • Optimize both channels to support VA and its international entities

    • Website & Digital Marketing

      • Act as a support in the architecture and expansion of VA’s websites and digital eco-system

      • Support paid strategies to help the organization best optimize and amplify its brand

      • Nurture the development of an Email/CRM experience for Individual Donors to help grow individual donations YoY

    • Events & Brand Experiences

      • Redefine the strategy and introduction of Events as a means of recognizing, connecting and celebrating VA’s Corporate donor partnerships

      • Support and guide the development and production of Brand Experiences such as webinars, donor trips and CP-specific milestones/partnership moments


  • Divisional Leads (this includes Development (revenue-centric) and Program (program-centric Division Marketing)

Work closely with the Development and Program Divisions to provide strategic marketing ideation that positions VA as a global public health and nutrition organization. Strategize and partner with key stakeholders to design a strategy that supports revenue generation to reach programmatic impact goals and showcases VA’s programmatic experience/expertise within the broader nutrition community.

  • Revenue-centric

    • Work closely with Development, provide strategic marketing ideation for campaigns, partnership pitches, content deliverables and events

    • Partner with SVP of Development on strategy, creation, and execution of cause marketing and CSR/sustainability initiatives and emerging opportunities

    • Support the translation of programmatic work to a consumer audience

    • Support innovation to help un-lock incremental revenue and value for existing partners

  • Program-centric

    • Position VA as a global public health and nutrition organization

    • Partner with SVP of Nutrition on strategy, creation, and execution of tools and activations

    • Lead external marketing opportunities to showcase VA’s programmatic experience/expertise

    • Partner with Director Corp/Foundation, ESG Engagements on strategy, creation, and execution of emerging foundation and ESG opportunities for revenue

    • Build and reinforce internal education

Experience & Qualifications

  • BA or BS required; advanced degree in marketing, business or communications preferred.

  • 10+ years in marketing, with at least 3 years of experience managing a marketing department of 10 or more staff members.

  • Experience in communications, advertising, public relations, public policy, government, or related field.

  • Prior experience managing a marketing and communications team that functions as an in-house agency with the ability to derive strategies from sometimes opposing forces in the organization.

  • Strategic and operational planning skills – sets long-term objectives and strategies for meeting goals; organizes and manages multiple priorities and allocates resources accordingly; maintains accountability; uses team mates and resources effectively and efficiently; anticipates and plans for potential obstacles.

  • Experience working with public health and nutrition organizations preferred – crafting high-level messaging for various audiences, translating programmatic work and objectives into tangible and understood initiatives for partners.

  • Experience with cause-marketing, CSR/Sustainability/DEI-centric thinking/building

  • Strong CPG, agency and/or retail experience.

  • Must have results in taking campaigns to market with proven ROI for both brand building, partnership value and revenue.

  • Experienced in working effectively and gaining respect of various constituencies including senior corporate executives, decision makers, creative partners, public relations partners, influencers and celebrities along with individual supporters.

  • Strong leadership ability, including inspired staff management, strategic and analytical skills required.

  • Superior interpersonal skills, excellent judgment, comfort with risk-taking.

  • Demonstrated ability to build a strong team through attracting and retaining talent.

  • High level of self-awareness, humility, and emotional intelligence; skilled at giving and receiving constructive feedback to and from direct reports and peers.

  • Experience leading organizations through change management and transforming business and organizational practices.

  • Track record of strong decision-making in the face of complex decisions.

  • Working knowledge of Salesforce a plus. Proficient at Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and other critical systems.

  • Ability to manage stress, including but not limited to stress resulting from large crowds, open spaces, shared office space, and daily activities.

  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods of time, including but not limited to general job assignments perform at a desk.


Level of Decision-Making – Vice President of Marketing

The Vice President of Marketing has final authority to make decisions on behalf of Marketing team, considering organizational relationships below.


Organizational Relationships – Vice President of Marketing

VA operates under a collaborative, matrix management model. The Vice President of Marketing is supervised by the Senior Vice President of Operations and interacts daily with a range of members of the VA team.
