OUR WORK

Vitamin Angels improves nutrition and health outcomes for women and children around the world.

We Deliver Essential Health and Nutrition Solutions to Underserved Populations

As a global health organization, we are committed to reaching the most underserved, nutritionally vulnerable populations — pregnant women, infants, and children — with proven solutions.

As 24-year-old Sophearoth neared the delivery date for her second child, she felt grateful for the energy she attributed to the prenatal vitamins and minerals she had been taking since her first trimester. Her new baby, who she planned to name Rayuk, was already proving to be an active child--even in the womb; she doubted the little one ever slept! With an energetic six-year-old son at home, Sophearoth sensed she would need all the strength she could get. Her older son was excited to become a big brother and eagerly rubbed his mom’s belly, anticipating the new arrival while dreaming of playing soccer together.

During pregnancy, women require more nutrients to support their health and their baby’s growth and development: nutrition needs can increase by as much as 50%. Often, diet alone does not provide all of the nutrition that a woman and baby need. To support maternal and child health, we focus on increasing access to multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) — better known as prenatal vitamins and minerals — and improving maternal diet quality.

In the United States and around the world, Vitamin Angels helps pregnant women access MMS and nutrition counseling. We provide the support and tools needed to ensure access, acceptance, and uptake of MMS for healthier pregnancies and improved birth outcomes.

The nutrition received from infancy through age two can influence a child’s health for a lifetime. During this critical window, we provide education on the importance of breastfeeding and complementary feeding, which can save lives while helping to promote healthy growth and development.

Breastfeeding is one of the best ways to promote a child’s health, well-being, and survival. It provides all the nutrients infants need to grow, helps protect children from childhood illnesses through antibodies, and has significant physical and mental health benefits for the breastfeeding mother. Vitamin Angels designs and implements nutrition counseling programs to improve maternal and child nutrition, such as support for exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and the introduction of nutrient-rich complementary foods with continued breastfeeding up to two years of age.

When children start life healthy, they’re better able to reach their full potential. To build strong immune systems, reduce illness, and support growth and development, we deliver vitamin A and deworming to children under five.

Vitamin Angels provides critical access to vitamin A and deworming treatment to young children. Two doses of vitamin A every year during early childhood supports healthy immune systems, promotes growth, prevents blindness, and improves child survival. Adding Albendazole, an antiparasitic, helps ensure optimal child health and nutrition.

We offer these evidence-based nutrition interventions, along with technical assistance and advocacy efforts, to help strengthen health systems and create brighter futures for underserved young children.

Across approximately 65 countries, including in all 50 US states, Vitamin Angels collaborates with an extensive network of partners to reach over 74 million women and children each year with high-impact nutrition interventions.

Our Global Advocacy

Improving nutrition at scale requires collaboration. We work with stakeholders across the private and public sectors to advocate for proven solutions, inform policy, and secure sustainable financing. Together, we translate evidence into action to strengthen systems and help more women and children access the nutrition they need to thrive.
